What is SAP Crystal Reports?
A: SAP Crystal Reports is a business intelligence application used to design and generate reports from a wide range of data sources. Several other applications, such as Microsoft Visual Studio, bundle an OEM version of Crystal Reports as a general purpose reporting tool. SAP Crystal Reports became the de facto standard report writer when Microsoft originally bundled it with Visual Basic in the mid 90s.
The current release, Crystal Reports 2008, builds upon 15 years and 12 versions. It's the reporting tool of choice for millions of IT professionals, application developers and report consumers.
What's the recommended specification for the computer that I install SAP Crystal Reports on?
A: System requirements for SAP Crystal Reports 2008 include:
- Windows XP SP2, Vista
- Intel® Pentium® III or equivalent processor
- 512 MB memory recommended
- 300 MB available hard drive space, 600 MB recommended with Visual Studio .NET integration

What data sources are supported?

How do I share reports with multiple users so that they can be refreshed on demand?
A: To securely manage and share reports with multiple users, you can publish reports directly to SAP Crystal Report Server. SAP Crystal Reports Server is an additional software product that can allow you to securely open, view, interact with and share reports and dashboards over the Web. An intuitive web browser interface enables users to run and schedule reports in a read-only format and distribute them automatically via email. What editions are available for Crystal Reports 2008?
Crystal Reports 2008 is available in a single edition, called Crystal Reports 2008. This new single edition has features equivalent to the Developer edition in older versions.
Does Crystal Reports 2008 include the same Crystal Reports Server promotional offer (5 named user licences) that was included with Crystal Reports XI?
A: No. The promotional offer has ended. However, customers can request a free trial version of Crystal Reports Server 2008. This gives them the opportunity to test Crystal Reports 2008 with our new server product. Just ask our Sales Team for a copy.
What is included on the CD and what is available via download?
A: Here is how it breaks down:
On the CD (about 620 MB total size uncompressed, 350 MB compressed)
- Crystal Reports 2008 Report Designer including all database drivers, exports, charting and mapping
- Translations for all languages for the Designer only (resource DLLs)
- Online help for all languages
- Template RPT files for all languages
- Crystal Reports 2008 for Visual Studio. This provides Visual Studio integration for .NET 1.1 and 2.0 and Visual Studio 2003 and 2005.
